Welcome to Lincoln
School and the 2009-2010 School Year. It is our pleasure to
work with you and your children this year and we welcome
your contact if we can be of service in any regard. We are
confident that you will find the staff, facilities, and
programs to be of high quality while being focused on the
needs of students. Lincoln School was established in 1954
and has been serving the diplomatic and development
communities in Nepal for fifty-five years. The school is
fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools
and Colleges in the US and by the Council of International
Schools in Europe. Our accreditation status with these
organizations was just renewed last spring for another ten
years. This accreditation renewal combined with a round of
strategic planning will guide our school improvement efforts
this year and for the next several years.
The students at Lincoln
School come from more than 40 countries. They tend to be
highly committed and enthused about their education. They
bring a wonderful range of cultural and personal experience
to the school. LS students have an established tradition of
hard work, varied interests, service, and a passion for
learning. They are truly a pleasure to work with!
Excellent teachers
are at the heart of outstanding schools. Our teachers come
from the US, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Austria, the United
Kingdom, France, and Nepal. They are highly trained and
experienced educators who have proven records of adding
value to the education of their students in a wide range of
public and private schools throughout the world. Several of
them have been recognized as the finest teachers in their
region, state, or country. They are talented teachers,
writers, mentors, artists, athletes, coaches, and friends.
They enjoy working with the students of Lincoln School and
are desirous of their success. In addition, nearly every
classroom has a trained Nepali Teaching Assistant that works
with the lead teacher and the students to provide an added
level of personalized instruction.
At Lincoln we are
committed to the education and development of our students
in a variety of ways including: academic abilities;
character and civility; communication and presentation
skills; global awareness and environmental preservation;
empathy and service; artistic appreciation and expression;
technical literacy; and personal health, fitness, and well
being. We are also committed to helping our students get to
know their host country Nepal. In addition to Nepali
language and cultural classes, our secondary students spend
a full week away from campus as part of the Explore Nepal
program.
The curriculum at LS
is based on American standards and benchmarks with an international
perspective. Lincoln School is one of a handful of international
schools using the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) which
is a state of the art computerized assessment taken three
times a year. The MAP assessment is used to identify individual
student skill levels in core academics and to guide instruction.
At the high school level, a wide range of Advanced Placement
(AP) courses are offered. These rigorous courses are essentially
university level classes offered in high school with an
opportunity to earn college placement and/or credit based
on exam scores. Most of our 11-12 grade students take AP
courses and nearly all attend colleges and universities
after graduating from Lincoln School.
Lincoln School is a
member of the South Asia International Schools Association (SAISA)
and our secondary students participate in a variety of
sports, art, music, and academic activities within the
league. In addition to annual SAISA Music and Art Festivals,
there are competitions in volleyball, basketball, swimming,
tennis, soccer, track & field, and math. Our students report
that their SAISA activities are among the highlights of
their Lincoln School experience.
Once again, welcome
to Lincoln School. Please feel free to contact us at any
time. We trust this will be a valuable and memorable year
for your children at LS.
Sincerely,
Allan Bredy
