Pre-School
Lincoln School
offers a rich, multi-sensory, activity
based program for children ages 3 and 4 directed by a fully qualified
teacher. A full description of the program follows below.
Although the school year
begins in mid August, admissions are rolling on a space available
basis until the limit of 20 is reached. There are two program
options, full day from 9a.m to 2:30pm or half day from 9am to
noon. Transportation is also available.
There is an open visiting time from
11 to 12 every Friday morning. We encourage parents to drop in
and see the program in action. Call ahead if possible to be sure
the class is not on a field trip.
Philosophy
- Lincoln School believes in creating
a secure, happy environment in which children are eager to come
to school; a place where 3 and 4 year old children engage in
learning activities that are developmentally appropriate.
- We believe that children are active, experiential
learners and therefore need a world rich in materials and varied
learning experiences. Our methods help them develop both large
and fine motor skills critical to successful independence in
their daily environment.
- We believe that emphasis should be placed
on acquiring social skills which enable children to benefit
from group activities within a multi-cultural environment.
- We believe that pre-school is a place where
children's emotional development lays the foundation for academic
learning and for the next step in their education. Children's
self-expression and creativity blossom when they have varied
artistic experiences.
- We provide an English speaking environment
designed to support language development.
- Our teachers are warm, caring adults
who respect children as individuals while being sensitive to
their needs.

Program Description
The program incorporates the following
elements:
Practical
Life: Simple utilitarian activities to enable children
to maintain and control their environment. Children want to copy
adult activities and to be able to perform them by themselves.
Sensorial Training: Education
regarding and development of the senses is directly connected
to children learning about the world around them and to their
future learning.
Mathematics: Number ideas
are assimilated by children through everyday activities.
Language:
Language learning emerges through an environment rich in experiences
which students share through the spoken and written word.
Cultural: Children learn to
respect and appreciate their own and other cultures through varied
experiences including art, dance, music, and cooking.
Physical development: The
daily practice of motor skills develops children¹s balance,
coordination, and harmonious well-being.
Free Activity: Free
activity is an essential part of the 3-4 year old child’s
needs as they can repeat and practice activities of interest to
themselves. Role playing helps children in their emotional, gender,
and personality development.
