| College Counseling
The process of selecting a college or university is a very important
part of the educational experience. The Guidance and Counseling
office at Lincoln School recognizes this and has developed a comprehensive
College Preparation program, which provides a number of support
services to help students and parents with the planning and application
process.
For example, a number of planning presentations are made available
to students and parents in the form of group or individual settings.
While the counselor provides planning information, the student
is responsible for taking the lead in researching, planning and
decision-making. Parents, teachers and the counselor are all involved
in the process, but the student must take ownership of the process.
Please read below for more comprehensive information.
S.A.T. -Scholastic Aptitude
Test
SAT I
The SAT I is designed to measure general aptitude in verbal and
mathematical reasoning along with a written essay. The SAT scores
are used by universities in many countries as criteria for admissions.
The test is offered at various times throughout the school year.
Registration is done through the counseling office and requires
a registration form to be filled out and either mailed or sent
online to meet the deadline. The student can choose to send the
scores directly to a university at the time of registration. More
information and practice tests are available in the Guidance Office
and by visiting www.collegeboard.com
SAT II
The SAT II is an aptitude/achievement test in various subject
areas and is a required test for some of the more selective universities.
A student may take up to three subject tests from a list of about
fourteen subject areas. As with the SAT I there are various testing
dates throughout the year. Registration and consultation should
be done with the Guidance office before signing up for the SAT
II. It is a good idea to try to take a subject area test at the
end of the year in which it was studied. Practice tests are available
in the Guidance Office. For more information, please visit www.collegeboard.com

TOEFL
(Test of English as a Foreign Language)
Students whose native language is not English are asked to take
this test. This test is a general requirement of most colleges
and universities that teach in English, but exceptions will sometimes
be made for students who scored high on the Verbal section of
the SAT I, attended an English speaking school, or took honors
English or AP English. Most students play it safe and take the
TOEFL to have the scores for universities or for the counselor
offices at various embassies. Please see the Guidance Office for
practice tests, registration and for more information.
(SSAT)
Students applying to American private boarding schools may be
required to sit for the SSAT for admission. Please contact Lincoln
School for test dates.
