Security
Concerns for safety permeate our program at Lincoln. Whether
students are on or off campus, we want to be sure we are prepared
to respond to a variety of emergency situations.
Earthquake Safety
Kathmandu is located in an earthquake zone and small tremors are
felt regularly. The last major earthquake here was in 1934, but
we have made preparations in case there is another big one. All
our major buildings meet high earthquake standards and we have
regular duck and cover and evacuation drills so students and staff
know what to do if the ground starts to shake. We have adequate
first aid, food, and shelter supplies in case of an emergency
and staff are trained in how to use them.
Drills
In addition to earthquake drills, we regularly conduct fire/evacuation
drills and “stand fast” drills in which students and
teachers stay in classrooms.
Security
The campus is located in a secure compound. High walls and fencing
mark the borders of the campus and the front gate is opened only
after visitors have identified themselves. Well-trained guards
patrol the campus 24 hours a day. We are also located only a few
hundred yards from the USAID compound and have access to the resources
available there.
Buses
Our buses are in excellent condition and are equipped with radios
which allow for easy communication with the School and the US
Embassy in the event of an emergency. Drivers have been trained
to respond to a variety of conditions they may meet on the road.
Young children are never dropped off unless there is an adult
to meet them.
U.S. Embassy Support
The school works closely with the Regional Security Officer at
the US Embassy to assess and respond to local situations as they
arise.
