Collaborative planning in English 9

This week the 9th grade English students have read the powerful story “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst.  The story is famous for including a vast amount of strong imagery.  In order to understand the importance of these images the students collected, collated and evaluated the best examples.  By sharing their ideas collectively they helped build a greater understanding of the text that will strengthen their thesis statements for an essay on how James Hurst uses imagery to convey meaning. If you haven’t read this short story I suggest you seek it out. It is well worth your time. Just ask a 9th grader, I’m sure they will agree.
