Week 3 Update

Good afternoon,

Another wonderful week of getting to know each other, the routines, and the school. We discussed, practiced, and discussed some more about our emergency procedures. The kids heard the fire and stand fast sirens and understood that there is no siren for an earthquake. They realize that we practice so that we are prepared for possible emergency situations.

Please remember to place all of your son/daughter’s swimming gear in a separate bag so that it is kept organized and lessens the chance of things getting lost/mixed up with others.

This week in reading, the kids have been working on their stamina and good habits, like rereading a sentence or page to smooth out their voice. They have also been working on scooping up words in phrases, which means they are working on tracking text with their eyes and not their fingers.

Writing is a time where the kids get to share about themselves, as we are working on narratives. The Grade 1 writers have been working on revising their completed pieces by going back to make them easier to read by trying out new spelling strategies, adding more details to their writing and pictures.

Grade 1 has been working on solving mystery numbers using the number line, representing numbers in a variety of ways. Like, using tally marks and manipulatives.
