Week 4 Update

We celebrated the 2018-2019 school year’s first Fabulous Friday, which marks the end of our first month of school. It has been filled with amazing memories and new friendships. The kids have taken the time to get to know each other and create strong bonds. In the first 20 days of school, they have learned to work cooperatively and independently. They have become problem-solvers, readers, writers, and mathematicians.

In reading this week, the kids worked on building their stamina while reading independently. They also continue to look for “wow” pages to share with their reading buddy.

The kids continue to work on their narrative writing. They are drawing detailed pictures, adding labels, and trying to write as many sounds as they hear.

Connecting reading and writing together, I read the story “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore” to the kids. They loved all the details and how the books brought color and adventure into Morris’ life. We then watched a short film, on youtube, which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Math continues to be a fun and rewarding time, as the kids explore shapes, numbers, and graphs.

During social studies, the kids have been discussing and comparing families. They have discussed how they are similar and different. The kids have also been discussing how they, as individuals, are unique and beautiful!
