Week 14 Update

The Primary 1 kids never cease to amaze me. They jumped right back into being curious learners after the Tihar break. A few highlights from the week include two birthdays and a math lesson with Grade 3.

As readers, the kids learned to talk about books and share their favorite part and we call this “Book Talk Power.” They also learned how important punctuation is to their reading. They giggled when I read ignoring the punctuation.

During writing, they worked with a partner or in a small group to find ways to make their stories easier to read.

In math this week, the kids explored weight by using a pan balance and capacity by comparing the volume of different containers. The kids continue to solve number stories involving addition and subtraction. They used unifix cubes to make number combinations between 5-9.

In science, the kids observed the growth of our class seeds. Some of the seeds planted have sprouted and some have yet to show any change. The kids created a book called “Plants Give Us…” and wrote different things that we get from plants, like food, material to make clothes, wood, and medicine. Finally, they wrote about what would happen if there were no plants.
