Grade 8 students have been working on a speech and memoir unit, analyzing a range of historical speeches from Sojourner Truth’s “Ain’t I a Woman?” to Franklin D. Roosevelt’s “Day of Infamy” by examining rhetorical appeals and strategies. After reading and analyzing Gettysburg Address, students wrote and delivered their own commemorative speeches inspired by historic sites. They did an amazing job presenting their work to an authentic audience.
