After researching plate tectonics, the effects of seismic waves on structures, and why buildings in Nepal might fail in an earthquake, sixth graders finished the year in science class with an engineering challenge. They designed structures on paper, as well as in Tinkercad 3D design software, and then created structures using tape and bamboo skewers. Finally, they tested their structures by modeling an earthquake on a homemade shake table.
