Foreign Languages
The study of foreign languages is an important part of the Lincoln
School curriculum. Beginning in the elementary grades students
are introduced to the Nepali language during their Nepal studies
class. In the middle school students begin to study French in
the 7th grade and 8th grade, however, students who need ESL support
are not required to take French and work on their English skills
instead. Beginning with the 9th grade students would continue
their ESL classes or the French language. Students do have an
option to study another foreign language provided a teacher is
available in the community to provide this service. The student’s
family is responsible for paying this “outside” instructor on
a fee for service basis. The instructor must present a curriculum
for approval and meet assessment standards of the school in order
to meet credit requirements. In the past students have had instruction
in the following languages:
- Nepali
- Hindi
- German
- Spanish
- Tibetan
- Japanese
- Norwegian
- Italian
- Danish
