Exploratory

To explore means to investigate thoroughly, to examine, to search, to travel into or become part of, for the purpose of discovery — to find new facets of the world, each other, and ourselves.

This process is especially important during adolescence. Middle school students are at an important phase of their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth as they develop their own voices and identities. This period is marked by rapid transitions toward greater independence and increased intellectual capacity.

In our Exploratory classes, students are given the chance to experiment intellectually without fear of academic repercussions. Working in small, multi-age groups within a learning area of their choice, students explore, investigate, tinker and experiment, building complex understandings of important questions. They discover self-confidence, build trust in one another and in their teachers, and engage in intellectual risk-taking in a safe space.
